I’ve got a set of friends that have recently gotten into understanding energy and how we can direct our energies to bring positivity into our lives. These are ladies I admire and adore but I hadn’t taken this new-found love for crystals, feathers or sagging very serious. In fact, on Valentines morning a saw that my favorite shopping app Hautelook was featuring ritual kits. I sent a link to my spiritual sisters to poke fun at them. This lighthearted text thread got deep when my girlfriend offered to give me a reading of sorts. This sweet soul had been studying numerology and she enlightened me. Her insight sent me on a path that truly helped me align my soul with my husbands on Valentine’s Day! Perhaps these ladies are on to something!
Energy Work
When it comes to energy work I am not brand new, I am just a skeptic. My college schooling included an abundance of anatomy between my Massage Therapy licensing and my Psychology degree. Thus, my mind is rooted in science. One year I chose to take a Reiki class to fulfill my continuing education required hours. Here is a brief overview of Reiki from www.reiki..org:
Brief overview of Reiki
“Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.”
Although I heard a direct testimonial from a lady attending the class on the healing powers of Reiki, I couldn’t get into it. This woman was attending the class because her daughter had been in a horrific accident. She credited Reiki with helping to heal her daughter. Nonetheless, I wasn’t a believer. I never incorporated the teachings of that workshop into my practice.

Life Path and Synergy
Being that I don’t subscribe to the cosmic world or practices of astrology I was a bit stunned by the accuracy of the information my spiritual sister sent me. If you are a novice when it comes to Numerology as I was, here is a synopsis from Kasamba.com:
“Numerology, then, is how we simplify sacred math, and how we apply it to understand all aspects of our individual existence. Our love life, career/business, health, family life, friendships, spirituality, leisurely activities, and personality can all be mathematically explained and understood.”
Positives and Negatives
In this numerical reading, I was assigned a number. Then given a profile of my characteristics based on that number. Both negative and positive attributes are explained. I’ll only give you a snippet of my positives, duh Law of attraction. Seriously, that is what drew me in and had me stuck in bed reading for an hour. Per my life path number in the book The life you were born to live
“They’re among the most creative people on the planet. The dynamic of 2 entails a form of cooperation with others…Whether businesspeople or healers, construction workers or hairdressers, mail clerks or athletes, they have the potential to bring the spark of creativity to life through their work, their hobbies or their family life.”
Drinking the Juice
Considering all my creative outlets and how they have been fulfilling my soul. I was intrigued, so I read the thirty plus screenshots my lovely friend sent me. It almost made me late for my volunteer hours giving spelling tests in Giana’s classroom. Was I drinking the juice? Was I being swayed by the pendulum and the crystal energy fields?
After I left the school I went and picked up Mama. I said we must go to Barnes and Nobel, I need to get a book on Numerology. Now, my mom is very strong in her faith but also fiercely supportive of her family. Her unconditional love is non-judgmental and she is always down to ride with me. She even had a coupon code for Barnes and Nobel. Man, I love my mama.
While I browsed the Astrology section and located the book The life you were born to live, mama walked the aisles of the Christian book section. Probably silently praying for me and my sanity. I know she was thinking you don’t need numerology girl, you need Jesus!

Merging Lifepaths
In addition to enlightening me on my life path, my spiritual guide gave me my husband’s life path number. I have no idea how she calculated them but I’m sure it can be found in the book. More exciting was the way our paths integrate and interact with one another.
“relationship produces passionate sparks of creative energy that, when challenged generate special magnetism (sexual or otherwise); these people can create anything together. They’re like oxygen and fire…cooperation is essential.”
A spin on Date Night; Depth and Mindfulness
Since we had no official plans for Valentine’s Day I called my husband James at work with a proposal. “Let’s do a life path workshop tonight, we can read about our individual destinies, and learn how our paths intersect.” James and I are similar in our intellectually based mindsets. We struggle with sci-fi, anime or anything that isn’t anchored in reality. Nevertheless, he knew I was on a quest for clarity and he wasn’t resisting my plan on Valentine’s Day.
After a tasty pan-seared trout dinner with our girls, we proceeded to have an intimate evening. With Etta James playing softly from our Sonos speakers, the fireplace roaring and a decanted bottle of wine in our glasses, we got into it. The book The life you were born to live is not an easy read. Each sentence is packed with so much depth, that it is tough to digest. in one sitting. Therefore, we read our partner’s profile to each other. By listening and not reading we permitted the other person to grasp the description of themselves.

After we read and discussed each of our life path summaries we delved into our relationship compatibility and conflicts. What I found particularly beneficial was the key questions provided.
“What makes me feel excited about this relationship?”
“How do we utilize or inhibit our mutual energy”.
Connection, Alignment and Merging of Souls
I don’t know if it was the “intense sexual chemisty” that our numbers merge into, the fresh fish or the wine but this date night was mind-blowing. It gave us a platform to complement each other, reflect and set new intentions. It felt like a relaxed private couple’s retreat. We got deep, and shifted our positions. These puns are certainly intended.

I’m sharing this date night idea because couples need a reminder to recalibrate, focus mindfully on each other and connect deeply. If this astrological approach is too far out for you, I strongly suggest doing the Myers Brigg Personality Test with your partner. We did this years ago, the numerology was like a new perspective on the same concept. You can find your personality type here. On the website you will first need to complete a survey:
“By learning more about my own personality, and about other personality types, I can come to a better understanding of my strengths and weaknesses.
I can improve my interpersonal relationships, realign my expectations towards others, and gain better self-knowledge that will help me define and achieve goals.”.
After you and your partner have your 4-letter personality type you can find out how they relate to each other.

To my spiritual sisters whom I will not name, you know who you are. There is so much value in the exchange of information. I love that I have friendships in which we share, teach and enrich each other’s lives. I am grateful for that. Thanks for the enlightment.
