Mother’s day gift ideas
Last year I saw a post that a friend shared on Facebook about what Mothers don’t want for Mother’s Day. It went on to name all the typical gifts that are given annually to mothers. Gift ideas such as a bouquet of flowers, a coffee mug that reads world’s best mom, breakfast in bed just to name a few. In my family, we typically go to brunch in a packed restaurant and this year it dawned on me that this isn’t really a treat for me, nor is it a relaxing occasion. It was time to come up with a new plan and thus the Mommy Pamper Party was born! With Cinco De Mayo landing the week before Mother’s Day I added that theme.
Let us be honest, the men are on to something with their golf outings for Father’s Day. Their itinerary includes beer cart girls, an extended time away from their children all while playing a game. Meanwhile, I am supposed to hop out of bed early, doll my kids up in dresses and do their hair and then head out to a crowded brunch.
Mother’s Day 2018
At Mother’s Day brunch, I will inevitably have to carry plates for the kids and serve them their selection of food. I will need to cut up the food for them and make sure they don’t make a mess on the pretty dresses I coordinated them in. Then I hope I stuffed enough distractions into their purses so they stay entertained and behave for the extended length of the meal. All while my mother-in-law counts the number of Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas I consume. Call me a bad mom if you must but I had to rewrite the script. Moms, we can do better!
Cinco De Mayo Themed Party
This year I arranged to pamper some well deserving mommies, to a Laufty day of doing what moms sincerely want to do. Sip, Dip, and Sit! Our Mother’s Day celebration fell on Cinco de Mayo which made the food and drink selection a breeze. I collected some posh gifts over the last few weeks and put together a swag bucket of items and gifted them to my friends. I kept it small and hosted 6 guest which is the capacity of my hot tub. Besides the last theme party, I had with this group was Friendsgiving.
It turned out to be the perfect spring day and the sun smiled down on us as we sat around the fire pit enjoying each other’s company and conversation. Despite the fact, I annexed my husband and kids away for the day, of course, they were a topic of conversation. With or without the Laufty gift swag, the ladies enjoyed a day of being served and having space to kick up their feet and breathe. We shared a lot of laughs and I think it’s time to rethink whom Mother’s Day celebrations are catered to.

I’d never made Pork Carnitas before this event. I bought the Power Cooker the same day as the party and followed the recipes on the Cinco De Mayo Party Board. I added a seasoning pack of McCormick Grill Mates Mojito Lime Marinade for a little added zest!
The blood orange margaritas were a huge hit and the pork was so tender and flavorful. Don’t get me wrong I love spending time with my family, however, if you want to show moms the appreciation for all they do, make it about them. What we really want is a breather and this was the perfect way to celebrate motherhood!
